KES Rowers win bronze medal in National Championships

.

King Edward’s School Witley took 18 students to the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships which were held in Battersea Park last Tuesday. It is the 3rd year these championships have been held at Battersea Evolution and the event is getting bigger and bigger, with 80 Concept 2 rowing machines lined up, and well over 1900 competitors in 50 races.

Every King Edward’s School girl and boy competing set a personal best time, and all five Upper Sixth boys came in the top 13 in the 2,000 metre race. The racing culminated in a very exciting 8-man relay race where teams were given a rowing machine and had to cover the University Boat Race distance of 6,780m as quickly as possible. With their performances in the earlier races, King Edward’s had high hopes and these were justified when they finished in a great time of 19 minutes, 55.4 seconds, just being pushed into 3rd place.
