The Lord Mayor, Nicholas Anstee, had a busy time at the annual Bridewell Luncheon at the Guildhall in March, when he presented medallions and certificates to no fewer than seven new Bridewell Fellows.

What is the collective noun for a gathering of Mayors? Some suggest the ‘Chain Gang’ and others, a ‘muster’ of Mayors. Either would have aptly described the gathering of Civic representation at King Edward’s School’s impressive Speech Day on Friday, 9
th July.
In 1994, having retired from teaching full time, Mr Ron Etherington agreed with Gwyn Phillips to coach lifesaving here for one term. Sixteen years later, he is still here!
King Edward’s School Witley is proud to announce that, following the issue of its IB results this week, it has maintained an average points score of 34 over the last 5 years. This is equivalent to the average achievement per pupil of 4 grades A at A Level,

At King Edward’s School’s Speech Day on Friday, 9
th July, Chairman of Governors, Treasurer Peter Estlin, unveiled a fine oil portrait of Mr Bertie Mawer, commissioned to celebrate his extraordinary association with the School for more than 60 years .
The OW and School Golf Championship took place on Friday 18th June at Milford Golf Club. 57 players took part and all elements of the King Edward's community were represented; boys and girls from the school, parents, staff, OW's and their guests.

Despite being outplayed for much of the annual cricket match v the Old Witleians the School's tail end batsmen defend well to ensure a draw.

Herewith some comments from OW Arthur Dudley:
.
Dear Mr Mawer,
I have recently completed reading your book on King Edward's School and just thought I would drop you a line to say how very much I enjoyed it. It is packed with so much information that I now feel the need to re-read it, in order to consolidate it all in my mind.
I have known for some time of course that the school had changed out of all
recognition since my time there, but never did I realise quite how extensive that change was. What a school! What a privilege to go there!
Many of the names you mention are familiar to me,B ill Reynolds, Billy Nield, Mr Swain etc - as for places, I can only guess where "Piccadilly" may be. I was particularly pleased that you chose to end your book with the school hymn. The words are so apposite, and whenever I drive through Witley, as I sometimes do on my way home to Portsmouth, I never fail to bring them to mind. Thank you for an excellent book and also for your enclosed letter.
Yours Sincerely
Arthur Dudley

Trek to Everest Base Camp
on 23/11/2010
In November I will be attempting to make a high altitude walk to Everest Base Camp in the company of some like-minded individuals.
Perfect weather conditions saw King Edward’s School hold its 10
th May day Madness, where nearly 300 pupils, staff, parents, Old Witleians and friends of the school ran 10 km around the playing fields and local roads.
Arthur Dudley kindly sent in the following, a shorter version of which will eventually appear under his 1941 Class Notes.

I was 11 years old when I entered KESW in September 1938 and I remember the sad farewell with my mother at Waterloo station when all we new boys got on the train for some place called Witley in Surrey.
