A record number of players and guests enjoyed a memorable day of golf and a special celebration dinner to mark this special occasion.
.
The 30th anniversary playing of the OW's Golf Championship lived up to the traditions established over the years and what made this year very special was the wide range of ages represented. In all 57 players took part and the Milford Course was in superb condition and provided everyone with the opportunity to give of their best.
.
Bacon rolls and coffee were served throughout the morning before players teed off in groups of three. Players from the school were the first out at 11.00 am and they were followed by the main body of OW's. In the early afternoon 4th form pupils, who had a science GCSE exam in the morning, got underway.
.
The conditions were windy but warm and players needed to play straight as the rough was high and thick! Play was slow but at the 10th tee Fred Deane and Susie Spragg were waiting with a glass of sparkling wine or fruit juice. For some this was just the tonic they needed, for others play continued to be wayward and challenging.
.
The handicaps worked really well for the OW's and initially there was a four way tie but after several count backs Stewart Philo, one of the youngest OW's emerged victorious with 36 points playing off 6.
.
It was really good to have so many ladies and girls playing this year and we were especially delighted that PGA professional Katya (Kat) Chaszczewski was able to join us and certainly Amanda and Anna-Lena enjoyed their round with her.
.
The Senior boy's handicaps are always difficult to get right as many only play occasionally but Head Boy Ed Willis won his section with Hong Kong pupil Tom Peng a close second.

After the golf everyone headed back to the School for Dinner and the prize giving. In the recently refurbished Dining Room 70 guests sat down to an exceptionally fine meal and the loin of roast beef and trimmings harked back to the dinner at West Surrey Golf Club in previous years.
.
Headmaster Kerr Fulton-Peebles said how much he appreciated OW events and this one in particular, as all members of the KES community were represented. A special cake was cut by members of the founding club or their close relatives. Brian Bicknell, Danny Abbott, Christine Grindell and Tim Reynolds are shown below
