The Old Witleian captain Patrick Ronane scored a goal two minutes from time to seal a win against a KES Academicals team.

On a heavy pitch, following substantial rain, the Academicals dominated early and took a deserved lead through Guilherme Oliveira.

The Old Witleians responded well and produced some impressive passing moves, and after a number of narrow misses, they eventually equalised to put the teams level at half time.

The Academicals included a number of current 1st XI players, a number of recent leavers and two members of staff; Mr Fred Pennell and Mr Clive Saunders.

They were always a threat, especially on the break, but it was the The Old Witleians who passed the ball with more purpose and were able to maintain better possession in the second half. With both teams coming close to scoring, it was eventually the Old Witleians who got the ball in the net for the winning goal with two minutes of play remaining. The match was played in a friendly but competitive spirit and this close and exciting game could have been won by either team.

After the match both teams enjoyed a roast dinner served in the school dining hall, an appropriate end to an excellent afternoon. Our thanks to Stuart Todd, Dan Abrahams and Colin Gould and his ground staff team for enabling the game to take place.
