Cold weather training in Antarctica

In November I will be attempting to make a high altitude walk to Everest Base Camp in the company of some like-minded individuals. My journey will be a hard but satisfying walk, aiming to reach Everest Base Camp. On the way we will ascend Gokyo Ri (17,550 ft), cross the pass of Cho La (17,783 ft) and ascend Kala Patar (18,448 ft). The route involves sometimes rocky and precipitous footpaths. Temperatures may drop as low as -25°C and the weather can be unpredictable. Walking can be difficult at that altitude and I will be taking care to avoid acute mountain sickness as that may bring my quest to an abrupt end with lots of nasty paperwork.

.

Please sponsor my efforts by donating to my chosen charity of a school bursary fund. This is not just any old school. Founded in 1553 as a safe place for destitute children, King Edward's School Witley provides a caring environment in which boys and girls of between 11 and 18 can be nurtured and helped to move beyond the difficulties of their family circumstances so that they can achieve their full potential.

.

ALL of the money donated via my page will be used to sponsor bursary places for disadvantaged children from the families of members of the armed forces. There are already children from 20 forces families at the school. However, it costs £23,000 each year to provide a fully funded bursary place there.
