Perfect weather conditions saw King Edward’s School hold its 10th May day Madness, where nearly 300 pupils, staff, parents, Old Witleians and friends of the school ran 10 km around the playing fields and local roads. Runners, aged from 11 to over 60, raised more than £1500 for one of the school’s chosen charities, the Prapan-Aree Hongsakul School in the foothills of the Maekok valley in Thailand.

A third visit to Thailand of pupils and staff has been organised for this summer and the money raised will help to build a library to be named after the King Edward’s School Chaplain, Rob Millington, who died from cancer last year.
‘The May Bank Holiday is a normal school day and so the run is a welcome break from the classrooms. Over this last year our pupils have worked hard to raise money for Prapan-Aree Hongsakul School. They have sold authentic Thai souvenirs and handicrafts, Thai cookbooks and during the summer half term they will be taking on ‘bob-a-jobs’ to individually raise small sums. It will all help to reach our target of £8,000,’ said Gwyn Phillips, Deputy Head.
