On a gloriously sunny day, art lovers from all over the South East of England headed for King Edward’s School, Witley, for the opening of the 13th VivArtis Arts Festival on Sunday 27th September.

The Guest of Honour was the celebrated sculptor, Nic Fiddian Green who provided ten exhibits, displayed at the front of the exhibition of sculpture and three two dimensional works. His equine work is regularly shown in London, New York, Australia and America, and he is well-known for carrying out very large commissions. Nic opened the Exhibition, encouraging the visitors to ‘feast their eyes’ on the artwork and sculptures displayed.

.

This year also marked the 11th time the Surrey Sculpture Society’s has combined with King Edward’s in providing a magnificent Sculpture trail in the grounds. The combination of sculpture and two dimensional arts is a really distinctive feature of the Festival. The Society is also looking forward to an informal talk by Nic Fiddian Green on Sunday, 11th October.

.

The Exhibition Hall and grounds were packed during the opening and the school was delighted that the Mayor of Godalming and the Deputy Mayors of Waverley and Haslemere were able to support this special occasion. All records were broken again for the third year running, with sales exceeding £34,000 in just 5 hours, so it would appear that the gloom of the economy has not prevented buyers from adding to their collections.

.

The Festival runs for another three weeks and it is open every day from 10.00 am to 5 p.m. including weekends until Sunday October 18th. On Saturday, 10th October at 7.30 pm, Jutta’s Party Band, a contemporary jazz quintet, will be performing at the school. The final evening, Sunday, 18th October at 7.00 pm, the King Edward’s School Parents Association are inviting local residents and friends of the School for Choral Evensong, a Reception, sausage sizzle and firework display. Both events are open to the general public and further information and tickets are available from 01428 686773.
