Five pupils from King Edward’s School, Witley were part of the City of London Borough team that competed in the Adidas Mini Marathon on Sunday 26th April 2009. The school which is supported by the City of London has been sending small groups to take part in the event for over ten years. This year five girls took part; three in the 13-14 year category, one in the 15-16 category and one in the 17-18 category. Mrs Nash took the team of Cora Scheerer, Caroline Schweitzer, Isabelle Egerton, Clementine Nash and Joyce Phillips.
.
The mini marathon is run over the last three miles of the main London Marathon route so the girls had a marvellous experience of running before thousands of spectators, who were cheering them on and then going through the finish area in the Mall before the main competitors finished.

All our girls finished and they really enjoyed the day and taking part in such a famous event. They especially liked their running vests and the Adidas goody bag that they received at the end of the day. It will provide them with special memories and let us hope that some of them go onto the full event in the future?

KES Biology teacher Mrs Jane Georghiou completed the 2009 Flora London Marathon. It was the 13th time she has taken part in the London race and her 15th marathon but she finds that the gruelling 26.2 mile distance never gets any easier. The enthusiastic crowds were out in even greater numbers this year and enjoyed good weather, though it was rather warm for the runners. She was pleased to finish in a time of 3 hours 28 minutes 53 seconds to be placed 478th of the 11,000 ladies and 6th in her age group.

Mainly due to the generosity of staff at King Edwards she raised £200 for the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, particularly for Bell’s Piece in Farnham, which provides excellent Horticulture and Arts and Crafts activities for participants in the local area.

OW Bob Jenkins ran his 15th Marathon in the over 70 age group. He finished in a time of 4 hours 46 minutes and was placed 30th in his age category. He was running to raise money for the Bridewell Foundation Campaign that supports bursary pupils at King Edward's School.

Well done all KES competitors
