Heavy snowfall encourages winter sports

Like many parts of the country King Edward’s School awoke to some of the heaviest snowfall in recent years. Depths of up to 12 inches were experienced and many of the roads and rail services were severely disrupted.

.However the 270 boarders and the few day pupils and staff that managed to get in, were given time off to enjoy the snowy conditions. The first three periods of the morning were given over to winter sports and sledging, sliding and a mass snow ball fight took place on the school paying fields. Some of the overseas pupils from the Far East had never experienced snow at all but they were not held back by their lack of experience!

During the rest of the day a restructured teaching programme was organised and day pupils were being advised not to travel to school on Tuesday as more heavy snow is being forecast. The school’s ground staff were busy all day clearing paths, roads and steps but we suspect it will all have to be done again tomorrow.
