Charity Fashion and Band Show at KES

Parade_1__web_.jpg
Whether through all-night swims and rowathons, mufti days and discos, May Day Madness 10k runs or indeed a sponsored head-shaving, fundraising at KES has always been a priority. There has never been a shortage of creative ideas of how to raise money for the charities close to our hearts, making the evening of Saturday 1st May no exception.

.

Following last year’s phenomenally successful ‘Battle of the Bands’ to raise money for the Malawi Expedition, the inaugural ‘Band Night and Fashion Show’ was held in Charter Hall, with past and present students showing their musical talents on the stage, and their creative flair for design on the catwalk.

The show was peppered with covers meticulously rehearsed by solo acts and bands within school, including ‘Beautiful Day’ and ‘I Will Follow You into the Dark’, and collections inspired by architecture and the iconic Yves Saint Laurent Mondrian dress, put together and created by our GCSE and A-Level Textiles students.

Originally thought of as a student’s CAS Project as part of the IB Diploma, the night proved to mean much more, both for those who were entertained and provided the entertainment, and for those who will benefit from the £174 raised for Chase, a local children’s hospice which specialises in care for children with terminal illnesses.

But perhaps the most striking element of the event was the sheer amount of talent which was displayed. From aspiring singers, drummers and guitarists to new and more experienced designers, dress-makers and models, it proved that there is no shortage of enthusiasm and passion when it comes to our students, some of whom hope later to study fashion design or music after finishing their studies at KES.

.

The first ‘Band Night and Fashion Show’ extravaganza has paved the way in inimitable style for others to follow suit, perhaps channelling their hobbies and interests into even more novel ways to raise money for many more worthy causes.
