King Edward’s School Witley is thrilled that 13% of the A Level results obtained by this year’s A Level cohort were awarded the new A* grade.
Almost a third of the students achieved an A* or A grade this summer, and almost all have been successful in gaining places at their university of choice despite the fierce competition for places which has been widely reported this year.
.
Among the success stories, Andrew Baxter from Elstead, who has been at King Edward’s School since the age of 11 and was Head Boy last year, gained a grand total of 3 A*s and 1 A grade to ensure his place at Christ Church Oxford to study Chemistry.
Will Barnes, from Chiddingfold, achieved 3 As and 1 A* and moves on to study History at York.
Tyler Fong, who has been a boarder at King Edward’s for seven years, gained 2A*s and 2As and will be going to Warwick to read Maths.
Other notable successes included Margaret Chen, going to Kings College, London, Sarah and Edwina Wang, who are off to Imperial College, and Roberta Einer and Alarna Baer who have gained places at Central St Martin’s.
Other leading universities which will be welcoming Witleians in September include Cambridge, Exeter, Brunel and Birmingham.
.
Back in July, King Edward’s School Witley already enjoyed considerable success this summer with its International Baccalaureate results. The IB and A Level results together produce a 99% success rate, with over 65% of exams graded A* to B overall.
.
King Edward’s prides itself on achieving fine results without being an academic hothouse.
The Headmaster, John Attwater, commented:
“We are delighted with these results, both as a school but more importantly in terms of the individual success stories they represent.
These exams recognise and reward a good deal of hard work, but these young men and women show that exam success need not be at the expense of taking full advantage of the all-round education and experience available here at school to equip them for life and get them where they want to go.
I wish them well for the future and look forward to hearing of their further successes, and thank everyone involved in helping them to achieve their goals.’
