OW & School Golf Championship 2010

The OW and School Golf Championship took place on Friday 18th June at Milford Golf Club. 57 players took part and all elements of the King Edward's community were represented; boys and girls from the school, parents, staff, OW's and their guests.

.

On arrival players were offered bacon rolls and coffee or orange juice. Play started promptly on the tees of holes 1 and 10 at 11.30 and this meant that a hour later all groups were on the course. The weather was kind, it was warm and slightly overcast with only a gentle breeze. The course was suffering from a lack of rain but the greens were in excellent condition. The staff and marshalls at Milford could not have been more helpful and friendly.

The standard of play was good and there were some high stapleford points scores.

.

The main results were:

OW Men: (Walter Hill Cup)  Edward Willis

OW Ladies: Harriet Swinnerd

OW Guests Men: (Brian Bicknell & Frank Grindell Cup) Mike Sadler

OW Guests Ladies: Christine Jenkins

OW & Guest (Bill Reynolds Putter) Bob and Christine Jenkins

Parents Men: Jack Hawkins

Staff Men: Clive Saunders

Staff Ladies: Alison Saunders

Senior Boys: Ben Chant (1st), Gareth Phillips (2nd), Victor Steiner (3rd)

Senior Girls: Nele Baer (1st), Valentina Scholtz (2nd)

Inter Boys: Cameron Mitchell (1st), Henry Young (2nd)

Inter Girls: Anna-Lena Schaub (1st), Amanda Majsterek (2nd)

Junior Boys: James Wood (1st) Joseph Hawkins (2nd)

.

Most of the the participants returned to school for a drinks reception and a special three course meal, which included roast beef or pork and seasonal strawberries and cream.

.

After the meal new Headmaster John Attwater introduced himself and indicated that he hoped to be a competitor in the future.  An auction and raffle raised £300 for the Annual Giving Campaign to help fund bursaries at the school.
