OW Overseas Receptions
2008 Hong Kong Reception
29th October 2007 Hong Kong Reception

29th October 2007 Hong Kong Reception

The venue was once again Madison's restaurant and bar. The small but select group of OW's and Causeway Bay at nightparents that gathered there, enjoyed a pleasant evening catching up with the latest developments at King Edward's School as well as updating Gwyn Phillips with their family and business affairs. They were able to view some of the chapters of the new interactive school DVD and they seemed to enjoy the lively introduction and the section on school activities. It gave them the opportunity to see some of the new facilities and developments and the all weather hockey and tennis surface met with their approval, as did the quality of the music from the choir and the orchestra. There were several prominent formers students of the music department present, including Magnum Tu (Ridley), Eve Leung (Queens) and Stephen Hung (Wakefield) and all three are pursuing musical careers teaching the piano and percussion and Eve is currently carrying out research in Hong Kong for her PhD.

Hong Kong OW Reception 2008 Magnum got married last December and he has a son who was born about a month ago and he clearly was very proud and happy with this important event in his life. Maggie Lawton (Tudor) joined us this year and she wishes to be remembered to OW's from the early 70's. She is working as the personal assistant of one of the island's leading economists. William Leung (Wakefield) is pursuing a successful business career and he is the General Manager of Corporate Support Company and he has also trained as a pilot. Zenia Hon (Queens) postponed a business trip to Shanghai to be present and she is working in the family firm developing property in some of the major cities of mainland China. Kevin Chan (Grafton) is in his final year of an ICT course and he is busy developing new software programmes. Adam Clarke and his wife were able to attend and they keep threatening to visit KES in the future so perhaps they will? Adam had had a very busy year but that seems to be normal for Hong Kong. Life goes on at a frenetic pace but every time I visit I am impressed with the work ethic and the efficiency with which jobs are carried out.

Although there were not many current parents present, they were intrigued talking to the former pupils, who enjoyed recounting their experiences as pupils of King Edward's.

Can I encourage other Hong Kong OW's to get in touch and leave their details so that we can get more of them to attend the reception next year?
